Sharing Hope

My Story of

Resilience

Sometimes all it takes for someone to hold on one more day is to know they are not alone – to know they are not the only person struggling.

Share your story

Thank you for your willingness to help someone by sharing your story of resilience and courage.

When dealing with mental illness, sometimes success simply means choosing to live another day. Those who suffer from depression due to traumatic brain injury or mental illnesses often feel alone. They hide in fear of judgment. Yet, when someone breaks an arm or has a life-threatening illness, do they hide in their homes in fear of judgment? No! They reach out for help. Stigma and fear stop those with mental and emotional challenges from reaching out. It’s time to end the stigma. Take the first step by sharing your journey.

Show others they are not alone.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Can i put the idea of suicide in someone's head by mentioning it?

      No.

No one can stop a suicide, it is inevitable.
If people in crisis get the help and support they need, there’s a good chance they wont feel suicidal again.
Confronting a person about suicide will only make them angry and increase the risk of suicide.

Asking someone directly about suicidal intent LOWERS anxiety, opens up communication and lowers the risk of an impulsive act.

      Only experts can prevent suicide.

Suicide prevention is everybody’s business, and anyone can help prevent the tragedy of suicide.

Suicidal people keep their plans to themselves.

Most suicidal people communicate their intent sometime during the week preceding their attempt.

Those who talk about it only want attention.

This is perhaps the most dangerous belief. Those who threaten, NEED the help. Take all signs seriously! Be brave enough to ask someone if they are thinking about suicide and when they say yes, be kind, listen, and help by getting others involved such as a school counselor, 988, SafeUt, a parent, or religious leader.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Ch Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Not some things. Not maybe. Not this or that thing. Not just service. Not just money. Not just church activities. Not just the easy or the hard. ALL THINGS! DO ALL THINGS....how? Through Christ. Christ is a title, a role, a Divine appointment.
This scripture came from Paul while he was in prison. Paul is my favorite NT Apostle. He was a convert. He was a pharasee and was in favor of persecuting, killing Jesus, The Christ. After His ascension and return to earth, Jesus walked with the unknowing, still rebellious Paul. Once he recognized His Savior, He immediately changed paths. He faced many challenges as a disciple. He understood by experience that he could do ALL things when he partnered with Jesus the Christ.
For me, this scripture reminds me to never leave Christ out of the equation.

About 30 deer and 100 turkey sleep in our backwoods under and in trees. They wonder around the neighborhood during the day.
This is my beautiful girl. Every once in a while a This is my beautiful girl. Every once in a while a new photo that I haven't seen pops up. This is one of those. She's so thoughtful, deep, beautiful, sad, and searching. She ended her pain by suicide 8 years ago.
Suicide is no respecter of persons. Sure, there are subcategories for more at risk but ultimately, the debilitating thoughts that cause such lack of hope and fear of the future can touch anyone. And....there are equal tools available to rise above and out of this dark, dark world. Please visit www.livehannahshope.org for great resources!
