A New Way of Life

In the April of 2021 my mom received the Covid-19 vaccine. A short two weeks after being vaccinated my mom’s body started rejecting gluten, then diary, then red meat and if increasingly has got worse as time has gone on. She can now only have plain, unbreaded chicken, plain ground turkey, black beans, bananas, apples, and lettuce. She can not even have certain water as her body rejects corn syrup. If she eats something her body cannot have she has allergic reactions and may need emergency medical care. As a result to these new conditions she now has a central line in which she receives her nutrients and iron, and she has many doctors appointments. As she is forced to adjust to the new normal with disautonomia so are my dad, my brother, and I. As she has faced many medical trials over the past three years, such as weighing 8lbs, attending the ER 3 times, having her body reject a feeding tube, and having her pick line in her arm get infected, I have worried about my mom immensely. With the worry of if my mom will live and if her doctors appointment are going ok it sometimes can distract me from other things in my life. As I worry about my mom I have been able to still retain adequate grades and complete my school work. As this trial has affected my family and me I have found resilience in my school work, but working hard to get good grades and to help distract me from the hardship reality. This trial in my family and watching my mom gain strength in her trails I have learned to recover and move on from other difficulties in my life with a positive attitude that everything will be ok.
